The Story behind Keeping Pieces
Handmade wearable art by Christine Pierce
Hello and welcome. My name is Christine Pierce. I am the artist behind Keeping Pieces. My journey as a jewelry artist probably began with my obsession with sea glass and beach stones. As my collection grew I felt compelled to display them in a unique way. I started creating wearable art in 2010. I have learned so much on my journey but my love for 'cold connection' and its challenges makes creating that much more enjoyable for me. I challenge myself to come up with designs and methods that make a piece wearable by using ... my brains ... this means I need to understand the materials I work with in a different way. This is good for my brains. :) I have also recently started my silver smithing journey and can now add 'hot connections' and soldering to my list of things I love to do. Keep a lookout for my designs in silver.
My focus these days is on hand collected beach stones, sea glass and repurposing vintage tin - though I would never limit myself to only those objects. I am a huge believer in re-purposing materials. I also utilize sterling silver, copper, brass and stainless steel in my designs. I create all the details and findings (ear wires, bails etc. ) by hand and don't use third party pre-made products in my work. This costs me more in time and material but it wouldn't be any fun for me otherwise.
I hope you enjoy browsing my imaginings and I thank you for visiting.
Sincerely,
Christine
